My granddad only stood about 5’6 but had the stature of a giant. He was a Colonel in the air force and when he would walk into a room whoever was in it gave him the respect that he deserved. As far back as I could remember he never said much and didn’t have to, just to hang around with him was enough. He never spoke an ill word to anyone, and when asked a question he would give you a quick informative response. I only remember him saying three things to me over the years that I knew him. My grandparents had lived in Florida and us in California. One summer we went out to visit and while the parents and grandparents were talking I decided to go play with the little boy next door. I was probably about eight or nine and the kid next door was the same age. he said that he had gotten in trouble with his dad and his dad locked up his toys in the shed for a week. Somehow we talked about it and decided it would be a good idea to get into the shed so we could play with the toys. The shed had an old single-pane window that I decided to push on to see if I could slide it open. As soon as I pushed on the window it cracked and broke! I got scared and ran back to my grandparent’s house. About half an hour later the little boy’s dad from next door showed up and told my dad that they needed to talk. My father asked me to go wait in the bedroom where I was staying until they were done with their conversation, and I did what I was told. The waiting felt like it was killing me it felt like it was 2 hours but only 10 minutes had gone by. I just had to know what they were talking about and how much trouble I was going to be in so I decided to creep into the hallway and lean up against the wall trying to hear my parents through the living room and kitchen. Even as much as I strained and tried to use really good hearing it was impossible to hear, just a bunch of mumbles. It was dark in the hallway and the living room so I figured I could creep into the living room a little bit closer to the kitchen. I stood up from a kneeling position turned the corner of the hallway and started heading for the living room. But was quickly surprised at who was standing there, MY GRANDDAD!!! I couldn’t believe it, my folks sent my granddad to punish me! My whole life flashed before my eyes and I suddenly burst into tears. He just looked at me with a loving face and said, ” Everything will be ok Matthew just go back into the room until we sort this out.” I don’t remember being in trouble at all or maybe my mind blocked it out. Whatever the case was I just remember how much I knew my granddad loved me at that moment. Our heavenly Father is the same way. Even though we are incredibly flawed human beings that make multiple mistakes a day he is always there waiting with open arms to care for us and help us, lead us, and guide us, but most of all to love us. He is showing us all through the Bible how much he loves us and how much it doesn’t matter who you are, he cares for you just the same as the next person. Please remember that our God is always there waiting for us to come to him so that he can listen and hold us. He wants to share in the good times and the bad, in the frustration and happy times. Dear heavenly Father, thank you so much for yet another beautiful day. Lord, we want to thank you for always being by our side, being in front of us, behind us, and carrying us when we fall. Leading us and guiding us towards a better life. Thank you most of all for wrapping your arms around us and just sitting with us. Help us to be better Christians today Lord whatever the case may be. In Jesus’ precious name AMEN!
Come to God and feel His love!
