Be a good teacher

My wife and I try and teach our 8 year old daughter how to do all kinds of different things. Sometimes she’s very receptive and has a lot of fun with it but she struggles with trying to figure out the significance of other ones. She adores cooking with us, making her own concoctions then having us try them whether we want to or not. Whenever I am building something I always try and share that experience with her so that she is able to do things on her own when she’s older and not have to rely on someone else. She can use a tape measure, mark lines, drill a pilot hole and screw the screws in. She helps us wash the vehicles, only I fear she’s only there to give her old father a surprise shower which is always good for a laugh or two. Helping us plant the garden was very entertaining and watching it grow with God’s help. My father didn’t show me how to do the most basic things to help myself and I really struggled later in life to catch up with all my friends that had been doing these things for years. One thing that I noticed when I was reading all of the books in the Bible was that Jesus took the time out to teach every single person and was humble in the way that he did it. He didn’t snub someone off because they were of a certain stature or feel like they didn’t need to learn something. He made sure that we had a relationship with God to the very last minute of His life. He never stopped loving or caring for us even after we beat Him within an inch of His life. He hung there spit on beaten and bloody professing his love for God and us, making sure He bridged that gap for us from earth to heaven. My wife and I want to do everything in our power to make sure that our kids are ready as much as they can be for the future. The most important thing for them to remember though is that we can only go so far on our own in life. We want her to remember always that God needs to be the leader in her life and that between God’s message and love mixed with what we taught her can change herself and the world. Psalms 32:8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will council you with my loving eye on you. Proverbs 22:6 start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.
